Saved about 27 grand off new on a 2018 Lexus GX460 through jacksboro

this is the whole game right here. i have flipped in and out of a dozen off-lease luxury cars over the years and the GX is the one exception to the usual rule. most luxury depreciates like a stone the first three years, which is exactly why buying at year four or five is smart, but the GX barely drops at all because Lexus made so few of them and the people who want one really want one.

that 1UR-FE will go 300k without anybody opening it up if you just change the oil and do the plugs at the interval. i wrench on Toyota and Lexus V8s and the GX is one of the few luxury vehicles i tell people to buy with high miles instead of run from. no direct injection carbon problem, no timing belt clock ticking, the water pump is about the scariest thing on the whole motor and even that is a known cheap job.

one tip for a truck coming out of texas, check the AVS shocks for age even if they scan fine. they are not a failure item at 70k but when they do go the factory ones are pricey, so just know it is out there. the KDSS you already had looked at, which is the right call because a leak there is the one thing that gets expensive. sounds like yours is clean. enjoy it, they ride like nothing else in that money.

that said the smart move with the German stuff is the same as what Arlo did with the Lexus, just aimed at a steeper curve. an Audi or a 5 series loses so much in the first four years that buying one used at half its new price and driving it a while can still pencil out, as long as you budget for maintenance instead of pretending it will drive free. buy the depreciation, respect the upkeep, and either brand can be a good deal. the GX just lets you skip most of the upkeep worry, which is the whole appeal.

different marque but i grabbed a 2017 Mercedes E350 off the same lot and the buying experience matched yours almost exactly. one owner, 52k, full records, and it was 14 under what a comparable one at the Benz store here was asking. wrote the long version up in its own thread if anybody wants the depreciation numbers on a used E-class, since that is a steeper curve than the GX and worth seeing in detail.

the reason i am posting here is your point about sending your own inspector. i did the same, an independent Benz specialist near the lot for 180, and they had zero problem with it. that is the tell. a seller who fights a PPI on a luxury car is telling you something, and a seller who shrugs and says come look is a different animal. good writeup, the GX is on my short list for my wife next.
